Every good & perfect gift

An interesting thing happened during one of the sharing with my small group – the Lost Boyz. I shared with them about my lack of time with my wife. And on Aug 6, it was the anniversary date that we decided to get together as a couple about 9 years ago. This got them really excited and they wanted to throw a surprise party. Those guys were really professional. In less than 10 minutes, they planned the party. – complete with candles, flower petals and food. All I had to do was write a poem and turned up in my suit. Sounds like fun… since I didn’t have to do anything. Well, the night turned out to be really great. More than that, as I reflected on our journey together to write the poem, I realize that she is indeed such a blessing to me. It’s such a joy to count our blessings for sometimes, we forget how the Lord has blessed us. “James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” I just wanted to attach the poem I wrote to my wife below. She is someone I really thank God for putting in my life.

It’s been 9 years since you said “yes!”
To say, “Lord whatever is your call, the answer is “yes!”
Yes! To turn from our dreams, our desires, & our hopes for ourselves
Yes! To live our lives for the Lord & not for ourselves!
Then we were young, naïve, & idealistic to say the least,
Then we didn’t understand the cost to be lowly & the least.

It’s been 9 years since you said “yes!”
I asked to be a permanent feature in your life, & you said, “yes!”
It was the most wonderful day of my life, or so I thought
But everyday with you was more wonderful than it ought.
Remember the times we pinched ourselves and thought it is a dream
That life is so sweet & joyful, indeed like a dream!

It’s been 9 years since you said “yes!”
I asked that we die to self, & you said, “yes!”
Through the choices to die to self, we thought we would have less;
But in God’s wonderful grace, we found His best!
What would we give in exchange for what we have found in Him?
Our dream home, our dream jobs, & our dream life now appear so dim!

It’s been 9 years since you said “yes!”
In fact, you said, “Yes! Yes! Yes!”
I know our lives are in God’s Almighty hands
And it is by His grace we still walk hand-in-hand!
Now with 9 years of hindsight, if I could ask that question again,
I have no doubts it would be you & I wish you’d say “yes” again!
